Splat Mat

§ May 30th, 2010 § Filed under Sewing § Tagged , § No Comments

Dear Anne,

Elaine and I sewed up a quick Splat Mat for little E this afternoon. It’s complete except for the binding to give it that finished look. One side is tan tablecloth vinyl and the other side is a giraffe print cotton. She’ll use the vinyle side for under his highchair because it will wipe up easily. The cotton side will be used when he is playing to soak up spills. It turned out really cute and coordinates with her neutral decor while still maintaining a young and fresh feel for the little one.

Now I need to see detailed photos of the beret you made for Marya’s birthday. I like the colors; I think they’ll look really pretty with Marya’s hair color and skin tone. I’ve considered making a beret for myself after the one I knit Mum turned out so well. I think a beret looks so much better on me than a traditional ski cap. Remind me this fall when I’m looking for another project to knit a beret. :O)

Have a great Memorial Day!!

Sophia Carry All

Hi Anne!
Well, here it is: the Sophia Carry All I’ve been promising Mum for 2 summers.
I’m doing it in Amy Butler’s Olive Geisha Fans with an avocado lining.
There is a lot involved in this project – multiple layers of interfacing, timtex, fleece; zipper; 3 yards of bias tape cording. I’m not sure I’ll have it done in time for her birthday in June, but that is the goal.

All cut out and ready to go!

My ironing space with the directions taped to the wall

Up next, the Weekender Tote!
I also plan on making a quilt (picnic blanket?) this summer and perhaps a few baby gifts for friends we know. I have so much more time to sew in the summer, but who wants to be cooped up inside all the time? I guess that’s why I love to knit in the summer, it’s so portable.
Looking forward to seeing you in a couple weeks!
